EAT WELL.                                DRINK WELL.

The Liberty is Charlotte's first Gastropub.  Our goal is to provide great food and drink at a reasonable cost.  The first Gastropubs started in London as many top chefs turned away from the high costs of fine dining, wanting to do their food in a more casual setting.
We also share this vision.  Our menu offers elevated comfort foods and pub fare using the best ingredients available.  We serve 19 hand crafted beers on tap (plus PBR!), and another 60 by the bottle.  Our wine list is carefully chosen to give you 30 affordable wines by the glass.  Naturally, we also have a full selection of spirits as well.
We don't have a dress code, or for that matter, an ounce of pretension.  We are casual enough for jeans and a tee shirt, but nice enough for a first date.
We are a neighborhood establishment, sitting at the gateway to South End and Dilworth, with a light rail stop in our parking lot.
We are unlike anything else in Charlotte.
Welcome to The Liberty.

Matthew Pera: Is the rarest of rarity, a Charlotte native...  He's been in the restaurant business since he was 16 (busboy at the old Cafe Society!).  He has been a part of some of the best restaurants in the city, from Marais and Zydeco to Upstream and Zink. He gives a great deal of credit to other restaurant owners he has worked with, such as Ed Steedman, Ron Herbert, John Love, and Tom Sasser.   Matthew enjoys travelling the world and eating and drinking his way through other cultures.  These experiences have helped him develop an "outside the box" mentality towards the hospitality industry.  He is married to Lisa, and usually does what she says...  They just had a boy, Gian Ryan Pera, who is supernaturally good-looking...

Tom Condron: Has been in the restaurant business since he was 14, working at the famed Dorchester Hotel in England.  He has worked for eight Michelin starred chefs throughout his career.  He is University of Florida Graduate, and later attended Johnson & Wales.  He went on to work at such restaurants as Le Cirque, Jean Louis @ the Watergate, Aqua Restaurant in San Fransisco,  the Boston Museum of Fine Arts Restaurant, the Peabody Hotel in Orlando and the Blue Ridge Grill in Atlanta.  He joined the Harper's Restaurant Group as Executive Chef for Mimosa Grill in 1997, and would come to open many of Charlotte's best restaurants.  Condron is married and has 3 children, Gethan, Emma, and McKenna.
